Garland measures aprox. 29" long and is connected together with rusty safety pins, with rusty safety pins on each end for hanging.

Dolls are aprox. 8.5" inches tall.

So.......in my last entry I said I was headed out to take pictures of the dolls outside - no easy task for January......believe it or not it was toooo sunny, (and 10 degrees above freezing as well) the wind was also a factor.......so I set my photo studio back up and with a black velvet background I got much better pictures........which I am hoping will show much better doll details!
Soon as I name and tag these "Love Bunnies" I will be listing them on ETSY! Please check out my shop for details.

Love Bunny - Primitive Valentines Day Bunny

Some Bunny Loves You

A corny sentiment on the apron of this primitive doll "Some Bunny Loves You" - makes the perfect addition to decorate for Valentines, and because its a bunny, leave it displayed for Easter as well. I made three of these bunnies, all very similar with variations in dress fabrics. My goal was to "prim and age" these gals up to suit both extreme primitive decor, as well as more traditional prim decorating. Their bodies are made from muslin, which has been stained, coffee dyed, painted, and sanded . Aprons are hand stitched/embroidered. Dress Fabrics were also aged, coffee dyed, and baked for a stiff OLD GRUBBY appearance...like they have been stored in the attic for many decades.Faces were needlescupted, for dimension with basic embroidered eyes to keep with the simple doll style of the early 1900's. The ears are wired and pose-able.
It certainly is difficult to get good camera shots inside during winter...so many lighting issues.....I will take some better pictures before listing these cuties in my ETSY SHOPPE! But here are the preview shots of the first "Love Bunny".
I'm going to attempt photographing these "Love Bunnies" outside and will upload pictures of all three when I get some decent digital photos.
So...its back to work I go.......

New Year! New Ideas!

Well, the NEW YEAR is upon us.....and on day 5 already........is it just me, or does it seem that the older I get, the faster the years fly by???
The NEW YEAR brings reflection for most people, and I am no different. I have been reflecting on the past year, both personally and professionally - thinking about what changes lay ahead of me - the possibilities for 2012!
Professionally, this means that I have spent the last 5 days sketching new ideas, inspired by thoughts of the upcoming seasons of 2012......as well as exploring ideas of how to make my ART business expand and be successful. I hope to start sewing up some of these ideas in my sketchpad in the upcoming weeks, and have some new items to list in my ETSY SHOPPE a.s.a.p!

It's a New Year - full of possibilities!

Merry Christmas!

Woke up this morning to some christmasy snow - the trees look beautiful with their branches coated is piles of white.:) Funny how snow puts the completion to the Christmas mood!

Working the late shift today, so hopefully the roads will be clear for my commute to work later on.

I want to thank all my loyal ARTSY CRAFTSY FOLKS fans, and customers for totally clearing out ALL my personal stock of Christmas themed Prim Creations! That has never happened before, so many THANKS to you all!

I have decided not to participate in any craft shows for this Christmas Season. In the past 4 years I have participated in numerous shows around the province, which has been quite an adventure! :) It resulted in a few successes and also a few failures. Economically, for me, it is much more cost effective to sell items through local shops, and through blogging, etsy and facebook, rather than renting tables and traveling around to shows. Times flying by.....

Can't believe it has been over 2 months since my last post...............it certainly is incredible how time flies.

Well, its probably quite obvious from my lack of posting that I haven't been working in the studio on anything new.................due to a variety of different reasons........

Inspiration drainer # 1 - Lackluster Sales - Even if you are doing something you love..........If months and months go by and you sell little (some months nothing).......and you have devoted hours and hours into projects and have scrimped from other parts of your family budget to buy fabrics, paint etc....Discouragement sets in, especially after working sooooo hard for many years in hopes of increased sales, not diminished sales.........yeah I know, the economy is bad..........and its bad for me also!
Inspiration drainer #2 - Need to find a REAL JOB - You know, one of those jobs where you get a paycheck everyweek........and don't need to invest half of it back into material costs. Some, my hours of sewing have been spent job hunting, researching, working on resume, and practising for an interview. And, ofcourse the economy is bad......so I haven't received any expression of interest back from any of my applications............yet. But I am still hopeful!
Inspiration drainer # 3 - Financial Stress - Yes, stress is a real downer......and the inspiration just isn't there.

However, as an Optimist I am always hopefully that things will improve and take shape in whatever way they are meant to.......the lessons I am learning through this "funky" period may prove helpful later on.........you just don't know.

In the meantime, I am going to list some of last years Christmas Season leftovers at discount prices. There will be lots of ornies, door greeters etc..... available.....as I am not investing in participation in any Christmas Shows or Craft sales this year. Last year I spent lots of money to participate in multiple shows, and didn't even break even with my costs.
I'll be listing them sometime in the next few weeks in my ETSY SHOPPE for those interested in taking a peek at them........

I am hoping inspiration will return to me soon...............

Sugar Bag Skirted Primitive Annies using Antique Sugar Bags for Skirt Materials

Above shows a closeup of one of the doll skirts made from these antique cotton sugar bags. The sugar bags used in this project were collected and saved by my grandmother...who passed these along to me. During the depression she used to bleach the print off them, and then make her undergarments from the wonderful cotton, because she couldn't afford to buy manufactured panties, slips and bras.

Inspiration abounds around the backyard, and in nature everywhere. I see some chicken dolls and garden dolls in the near future inspired by the yard around my house, and from our recent camping trip.

July is Here - So I'm Sewing in the Sunshine

We just returned from 3 days camping at Kejimkujik National Park. We had one overcast day, and the rest were full hot sunshine. I had my first experience in a canoe with my 6 year old on this trip, and although he was anxious at first, he soon came to love the canoe, and all the wildlife we seen on our paddle.:) All three of my boys had a great time. Kejimkujik is a wonderful magical wilderness place that everyone should take the time to visit if they can.;)

I received a call while I was away with an order for some dolls. It is very exciting to get orders! So today I am back to work in the studio, working on some new dolls. It is soooo sunny and hot outside, I think I will be outside to do some hand sewing and doing some finishing touches and fine details on the projects at hand.

So......I am off to sew in the sunshine for the rest of the week. I should have photos to show of completed work soon........
Hope the sun is shining where you are too, and that you get a chance to enjoy this beautiful summer weather today!

I just finished up some wonderful goods to send to "Slocums Boot Shop" Gift Store in Westport, Nova Scotia. All of these items, plus some of my Goth Creepy themed items are being delivered to the shop today and will be available for purchase starting June 1st.

Here is some of the stock waiting to be delivered for this summer season to local craft shops. I also wanted to show off these fantastic shelving units that I recently scored, that are perfect for doll storage and display. I purchased 3 of these units for a mere 10 dollars - previously they were potato chip racks at a convenience store that recently closed in our area. I cleaned them up and are a perfect addition in my studio!

Where oh Where did April go??? Oh where oh where could it be??

Well, mid way through April already?? I was hoping to have sooooo many things accomplished by now, however the pneumonia sure did bring me down, and I just now am feeling like myself again, after a whole month...... I have been functioning, and doing the day to day, but not getting much accomplished in the studio, sadly. :(

This past week my hubby treated me to a night in the city, and tickets to the "Harlem Globetrotters" The show they put on is awesome, and I have been wanted to see them since I was a kid, so it was reallly special to me. Then we went out to "Durty Nelly's" which is a unique pub, being that it is an original pub from Ireland, that was dismantled and reassembled in Halifax. It has a unique charm, and fanastic food. We enjoyed Nachos and Guiness chocolate cake, that we both agreed was the best chocolate cake we have ever eaten! I would highly recommend having food and drinks at "Durty Nelly's", downtown Halifax! It was a fantastic 36 hours away from the "normal" rural life, and without the kiddies, but as always, it sure is fantastic to get back home to the kids and the normal routines.:)

With a number of things started in the studio, many designs only in the first stages, I only have a couple of little wee dollies to share that have been completed. These dolls are destined for "local shoppes" in Nova Scotia. I am working in the studio all day today, so hopefully some more items will be near completion and be ready to share this week.

My springtime gift was pneumonia- on the road to recovery now! phew!

It has been a hard week or so..........had been sick with flu like, and cold symptoms for awhile and thought I was getting better, until last Friday when I woke up and felt like I was breathing through a pin hole in a plastic bag, and I didn't have enough strength to make it up the stairs. After numerous days on IV antibiotics and 2 different oral antibiotics.......I am on the mend. I haven't been able to sew yet.......I get tired out so fast.....I still need to nap periodically too. Today I am hoping to sew and finish up some things I had already started before I got sick.

Nasty germs around to catch. Hoping you all stay healthy!!

And, if I do get a feeling like "crafting" today, I'll have a pic to show ya soon! Take Care Everyone!

It certainly looks like the first day of Spring here in Nova Scotia. Sunshine and warm temperatures have me thinking about gardening and exploring. Today also is the last day of "March Break" for the kiddies......as they are back to school tomorrow!

New Primitive Bug Critter Ant Dolls....

I am on a new theme, I am in Spring mode! I am starting with some amazing Aunts....oooops I mean Ants....... or are they Aunts??? Even i am confused now, but the Ants are having some munchies at the Family Picnic.....your family picnic???Or theres? Hard to tell, but Ant Frannie and Ant Isabella certainly are enjoying the food!

I wish I could have captured better pictures, but I did my best....they just seem so much cuter in person than they look in the pictures......but I guess thats my photography!

I am wondering what "BUG" to make next.......these were fun so now I am on a new theme...... any suggestions?

Mother Goose ends the Nursery Rhyme Collection for now....while I take a break from rhyming to work on other things......some primitive ants and sping items are on the way soon.:) I may add some more nursery rhyme themed dolls later on this year.....so far there are 8 in the collection but atleast 5 more rhymes I would like challenge myself with......

I may make some more pigs from the rhyme later on...... if I am still inspired with this collection. The winter and cold is "getting to me" and hoping that working on some spring thingies will give me a quick "perk me up" :)

Yes, I have had a HUGE LONG break from sewing "Primitives" as I worked on my other collections.....but I have new found inspiration and am starting a whole new collection based on my "Favorite Nursery Rhymes" I have been thinking about doing my version of nursery rhymes for a long time, and so here it is, the first doll in the series.

We had a very Merry Christmas at our home and hope you did too! Family and Friends, Dinners and Wine......makes for a Ho! Ho! Ho! of a time! lol

Now for crafting news:

I have had a few disapointments lately - comes with the business of crafting I guess! I had 2 very "unsuccessful" Christmas Crafts Shows.......both with which I went in "the hole"! Which SHOCKED me as last year I did very well at both the same shows, so i stuck with those 2 for this year and "bombed". I am stuck with alot of inventory that I worked extremely hard on for months to prepare for these shows.
To add "insult to injury" I did receive a small custom order about 2 weeks before christmas.......I worked very hard to complete the order so they would have it in time - 16 hours total work time - I called them and left them 2 messages on 2 separate occasions .........no call back, no pick up, no money!!!! What the heck do I do with them?????? They were a specific christmas design which I wouldn't have ordinarly made!!! Very Disapointing! I guess I will not be able to accept anymore custom orders without at least half the final value as a deposit...........unless they are a returning and valued customer!
I wonder sometimes if all the time and effort is worth it and to be honest I really don't know ......I guess I will keep pluggin' away at it for awhile......but it may be time to find an actual paying job.:(

Last Craft Show of the Season

Time sure does fly by quickly.....only 15 days left before Christmas..... I have been busy preparing for the holidays....finishing up some last minute crafts, decorating, cooking, and of course shopping......and the countdown is on........
Tomorrow, December 11th will be my final craft booth of the season. The Christmas Tea & Craft Bazaar in Westport, on Brier Island, N.S. From 11 a.m until 2 p.m. If you are in the local area, be sure to stop by! :)

Some of last years holiday designs are completely sold out, while others I have 1 or 2 items remaining. 2010 christmas decor designs have been popular and some of them I only have a few remaining......I already have a long list of ideas for new designs for next Christmas........lol Besides christmas primitive decor, I have a selection of "goth" dolls and "prim dolls". Wow - almost a month has passed since my last post......time sure does fly by quickly! I have been busy preparing for the last 2 craft shows of the season : This Saturday I will be at I.C.S Candy Cane Carnival Craft Show , Freeport, N.S from 11 - 2 p.m with lots of new designs, and some old favorites! On a bird theme - here are 2 of my new ETSY listings!

Both the CROW and the SEAGULL were handcrafted from muslin fabric, which has been painted and distressed. They have wire legs and the Crow holds a rusty key, while the seagull holds a piece of BAY OF FUNDY beach glass.

These were fun to make - I may make some more of these birdies with a Christmas theme......Do you think Santa would like to ride a crow to deliver Christmas presents this year........lol

I have decided that since I do two very different styles of art - primitives, as well as goth creepy dolls - and most of my customers, fans etc..... prefer either or, but not both......that I will be do two different blogs to depict each style individually....... I have changed this main blog to be primarly for my primitive - stitchery, home decor, quilts and prim dolls. The New Blog that I will be creating will depict only my creepy creations - and ofcourse I will include a link between the 2 blogs. Hope this is helpful and well received!!! Not much sewing going on lately........

It has been a looooong time since my last post - since there hasn't been a whole lotta sewing going on lately..............at least in my studio. lol I have been working parttime sewing for a bridal designer, which is very different from what I am used to making, but it is incredibly fun! :) However, the urge to create some new stuff has been overwhelming, so I got out some half completed doll bodies last night and am finishing them up so I can release some new creations this coming week! Exciting for me to be creating again after a month long hiatus!

Also during this last month, I have read some fantastic audio books - Apocalypse 2012 - The next 100 years - and Withering Heights...... Also, have been doing alot of vegetarian cooking / experimenting.....lol and have played around with a new hair do......(see pic) lol Time flies when your having fun.......

Will be posting the new dollies soon as they are done!!!! (hopefully by Wednesday):)

Fall has arrived - Back to School & Back to Work

Fall has seemed to arrive - rather quickly I might add! Where oh where does the time go??
The kids had their first week back to school already, and this morning we have the fall chillies, and need our first wood fire.
I haven't had much chance to sew since returning from my trip to Montreal, but getting back to work this week. I have lots of new ideas in my head for some goth dolls as well as some Christmas Prims and Primitive Kitchen Decor! Right now they are just in the sketching stages.:)
I hope to have some pictures to share by next weekend!

The Shanty Cafe/Consignment in Yarmouth, N.S - Delivery shipped Tuesday August 10th, by courier. Should have arrived in Yarmouth by Thursday August 12th. If you are in the Yarmouth, N.S area stop on by the Shanty Cafe and check out the new items!
Candle in the Window Gift Shoppe, Port George (Middleton) N.S - 2 boxes of fresh stock, primitives and gothic items being shipped by courier on Monday August 16th. Will arrive in Port George by Wednesday August 18th. This shop has a great variety of arts and crafts! If you have never been there before, be sure to stop by - there are wonderful treasures to be found there!
Hooking by the Sea Gift Shop - Brier Island , N.S (in the old Slocum Boot Shop), New stock is being picked up today (August 13th) and should be displayed and available this weekend! Lots of prim treasures and goth dolls are on route to this fantastic location! Be sure to stop by and check out what the local artisans have to offer. :)
Bluefin Pottery/Gift Shop - Downtown Digby N.S - I am currently working on stock for this location - with a halloween/biker theme in anticipation of Wharf Rat Rally, which begins on September 1st. I will be delivering dolls to the gift shop on Monday - August 23rd. So be sure to stop by before or during wharf rat rally to check out my newest dollies!

It is a busy month - phew! Where has the summer gone? The next few weeks are so hectic with planned activities that the kiddies will be back to school before I know it! I am still working on some Halloween goodies, and I have been thinking, that it is going to be sooooo difficult to switch my focus to Christmas goods, which will have to get started soon.......I just LOVE the halloweeny things sooooooo much! Corpse Bride and Groom Primitive Goth 2 Doll Set with Three Dimensional Eyes and Wired Fingers!

Meet my newest creation - a couple of newlyweds ready for their honeymoon.
Now listed on Etsy for 175.00 (both dolls).

I spent hours and hours and hours creating this set, and I think it was worth every minute, I am sooooo happy with how they turned out, and it was fun, fun, fun to make these. :)

Mr & Mrs. Spooks look very happy together. Mr. Spooks is very dapper in his top hat and painted vest with stylish checked pants, complete with matching bow tie. Mrs. Spooks is wearing a creamy velvet wedding gown complete with antique faux diamond button pearl necklace. Her gown features hand beaded lace.
Both dolls are aprox. 24" tall. each

Both dollies are made from a muslin base, and have been hand painted, with three dimensional eyes, and feature wired fingers that can be bent and posed, like they are holding hands in the photos...Mr. Spooks also features needle sculpted toes.

More to come soon - I am currently working on some more bodies in this series, which should be dressed and ready to post sometime this week!!

I spent most of the day dressing and putting finishing touches on my newest dollie - Mr. Heebie Jeebies!
I am sooo happy with the way he turned out! I just listed him on Etsy, and ofcourse I hope he sells, but hope he doesn't sell too fast, so I can enjoy him for awhile! ;)

I've got some more bodies waiting to be dressed, so in the next few days there will be another new dollie to share!

Fallen Angel Primitive Goth Doll - New Etsy Listing

I am soooooo excited about my newest creation "Madeline - The Fallen Angel". I just love it when I am playing around with new techniques, and I come across something that makes me Sooooo EXCITED! With this doll, I played around with new painting and wiring techniques, as well as creating her with a tilted head, more posed that my ordinary dollies. I also tried making her eyes, more "anime" style, like the lady gaga contacts she wears in her new video.

Finally have had a chance to do some "creating" during these hot sunny days. I got a really nasty sunburn, and was forced to stay inside, which ended up in getting lots of work caught up. There is a good side to everything! :)
I also added some dollies to my etsy store, and if you take notice, I now have an etsy widget on the left side of this blog page, which should make it easier to see whats currently available!

Chickens, Dogs, and Kiddies - The House is Full! lol

I haven't had much time to sew/create anything new lately. The house has been full of chickens, and the new additions have taken up space and time. Here are some baby pics of them. We just got the coop finished yesterday and got them out in there last night, still with the brodding light ofcourse, but they are outta the house. Phew! Maybe now I can get some work done around here.

These are 4 Barred Rock Chicks at 2 weeks old. These were purchased unsexed, so there might be a rooster amongst them. We are new to the whole chicken thing, so we don't know yet.:)

These are 15 white layers - 12 are ours, and 3 we are raising to full grown for someone else. These are all gonna be hens!

Ofcourse these are babies we've already had. Couldn't include pet pics without adding these. Gizmo is ofcourse doing his favorite thing - eating!!!

Sewing Again...;)

Phew! It sure has been a long time since I posted anything....yes I have been busy. I haven't sewn much all winter as it has been a busy one, and I have been focusing on some personal goals.....
but all it well, and I am sewing again!
I have some orders from shops to fill this coming month, and as you can see from older posts, that I did close my website and am focusing more on shop sales which has seemed to be more productive. I have some ocean themed items on the way - some "SeaGulls", Sea Witches and Mermaids to name a few which are near completion. I should be able to post some pics to share within the next few days. As always, I do take shipping orders from blog postings, and accept payments through paypal. So if you see something you like, or wish to place a custom order, drop me a line!

Closing Down Domain - But Still in Business

Sad day for me - I am closing my domain/website Artsy Craftsy Folks. Its been coming for awhile, I haven't had a sale on my own website since April 2009. I was reluctant to close it because of all the work involved in its original building, but the costs of keeping it are too high. The arts/crafts economy is sooooo bad right now - but I am still going to create, afterall how could I ever stop! Items traditionally found on my website, will be available on my blog, as well as on etsy.

Well, its a "Snow Day" here in Nova Scotia.......so the children are all still in bed. Some nice heavy wet snow has fallen through the night, and although it was only forecasting a few cms, it looks like there are about 3 inches on the outside railing!
January has flown by so fast, I can't believe we are nearing the end of the first month of 2010 already! Although I haven't posted any new items lately I have been working, working working......
I have a few half done dollies, and have been doing up some shop order of pillows, and valentine goodies! I will have some new dollies to post, and some updates to the website very very soon!!

Primitive Rusty Quart Jar Candle Holders with Prim Labels -

Starting with plain quart jars I printed prim labels - some from google images and some I designed myself. I rusted the jars with my own "prim rusting recipe" which gives them a nice slightly bumpy authentic looking rust. They were sealed for protection, and have a grubby piece of cheesecloth tied around the rim. Each Jar comes with a frosted votive/tealight candle holder which sits perfectly in the jar opening and includes a vanilla scented tealight candle.

I finally have something NEW to show you. It isn't as though I haven't been trying...lol , and I thought with all three boys back in school I would be whipping out dolls by the dozen, but such is life.....the days just zooooom by!
These dolls bodies are created from a fantastic pattern by Patti Medaris Culea - out of her book "Creative Cloth Doll Making" She has FANTASTIC pattern books.

These particular dolls have been shipped to "Candle in The Window" in Port George, Nova Scotia., where they will be available for sale until September 30th. This is a wonderful museum and crafter market 12 km north of Middleton, in the Annapolis Valley. It's worth a "look see" for sure!

School Has Begun - First Year for my BABY - wahhhhhh!

Do I feel old? Yes - especially now that I have no babies home anymore, and all three of my wonderful boys are in school. I had a few tears yesterday morning, as they all left on the big yellow bus.......however soon afterward while I was enjoying my coffee and newspaper - I noticed how quiet it was - and thought this might not be soooo bad afterall! lol

Here is Griffin - impatiently waiting for the bus to take him to his first "REAL" school day! He was sooooo excited he couldn't finish his breakfast, which almost never happens.:)

Sawyer wasn't that excited about starting Grade 3 - He said summer was way toooooo short!

Jesse looks like he is posing for a clothing ad.....lol He was a bit excited to start his first day of Jr. Highschool - although you'd never know it, as he is keeping COOL. lmaoThere they go on the "big yellow bus" -

Although I will get a few things accomplished around here, and enjoy some peace and quiet - I still miss them terribly when they are away at school....I can't imagine what I will be like when they go away to college.....ughhhhh!

Fall Primitives on The Way......Dining room Primitive Re-do!

Wow, is August ever flying by quickly - between summer fun with my kids, allergies, and basic domestic duties I seem to be getting nothing finished. Such is life!
I have some black cats, pumpkin men, and Witches on the way - nearing completion. I have started many projects, new patterns, designs - all at once. It is different from my normal "one - at a time" work process. I am not sure if I like working on so many different things at once, because I haven't actually finished anything yet.......I may have to go back to my old "one at a time" ways.....time will tell!
I finally got my dining room painted last week........I am pleased with the way it turned out! My husband was unsure of the color - and when I said I was painting all the nice pine trim black, he rolled his eyes at me and said yuck! However, when he saw the finished dining room, he said "its so nice and cozy, and I am soooo surprised the black fits so nicely" Now he tells me, I should paint the family room in a nice cozy color before winter!

Here are some pics of the dining room. I just love my shelves - even though I don't have anything on them yet......but they will soon be full of autumn dollies!

I just received my issue of Art Doll Quarterly - Autumn 2009 and am sooooo excited to have 2 of my dolls in this issue. Just returned home from camping at Kejimukjik National Park & Historic Site. Wish we could have stayed longer, but now it is back to work for me and hubby! Beginning to work on some "Fall Themed Items , mostly centered around HALLOWEEN - In the meantime Here are some highlights from our trip:

June sure is flying by quickly. I can't believe my last post was back on May 27th....yikes! I have been working in the studio on some new stitchery designs, intended for tea towels. When I get the patterns uploaded in PDF files, the patterns themselves will be listed for sale. For right now, I have done each original design onto tea towels. Currently available are tea towels in either grubby prim style, or natural cotton muslin. There are 8 designs total, but will be adding more soon. As well, the patterns should be up for grabs within the next few days.
Below are some pics of the designs, shown on 100% cotton muslin, in both natural and grubbied . There are 1 of each available in either variation. Tea towels measure aprox. 27"long x14"wide. I have been in a sort of "creative FUNK" as I like to call it! Yes, my creativity has been gone for the last month or so........it happens from time to time - for every artist. This time mine was caused by a variety of factors, all colliding together. Family obligations and a hectic schedule were forefront, followed by a bit of discouragement and a few failed business decisions.
However, I am now BACK from my FUNK! phew! So expect me to be posting lots of new "goodies" in the weeks to come! fun! fun! fun!

My baby has gone to his first full day of school! (practise day)

Griffin has been asking me for weeks (when do I go to school with the big boys?) Well, practise day has arrived, and there he is...waiting for the bus with his brothers.....my youngest baby off to school for the day!

Not scared at all - but extremely excited!

Hope him and Sawyer don't fight on the playground, like they do at home.......(I guess Mama is the only one scared)
And there he goes......sniff sniff. I haven't been without a baby home in 12 years! Oh well, at least it is just a practise day! A little taste of what Fall will be like.....oh my, it is sooooo quiet here!

A great day to catch up on work in the studio! If I can get focused that is!

Kitchen Redo with Artsy Craftsy Folks touches! :) My new Primitive Kitchen Decor!

I spent 4 days redoing my kitchen this past week.......finally the finishing touches were added today, the curtains I made and hand embroidered, and the island table was finished its final coat of paint.
The cupboards are birch, and had been coated with a clear varnish. So, last Tuesday the sanding began, and the sanding went on, and on, and on..........even with an electric sander! I then coated the cupboards with an extremely dark green paint. After dry, I coated with a high quality washable matte finish paint in a "creamy white". After painting in sections, and while still fairly wet (before becoming tacky), I used old rags to wipe gently over the white, leaving streaks that give it the white washed worn style finish of white painted wood been weathered.
I painted the walls "ground tumeric" on 2 sides, and the backsplash in white. I then handpainted the words "Wishes, Hopes and Dreams" on the backsplash and hand painted stars in the "ground tumeric" color!
My wonderful hubby, made me the island table in just a mere couple of hours. He used materials we already had around the house. Old window casings, and an old shed door for the top! He happens to be brilliant! I painted it with a washable black matte paint. The best thing about using the shed door for the top (although he had to cut it down a bit) it has a cool hole in the top, which is all worn and widdled where the hook and eye used to be, and bumps and grooves all around the edge which give it character and a whole new life!
My newest find was the PERFECT rocking chair, which I picked up at an antique store at a fabulous price! It fits in the kitchen perfectly and is worn in all the right places. I estimate its origin from 1920's, or 1930;s, and was originally handcrafted in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia!

Now, its back to work in the studio, on some new designs........(although I may paint some CROWS on a few of the cupboards doors.....I just can't stop. lol

Down and Out but Back and Ready - Primitive Easter Blessings!

Phew! I have been down and out for awhile now with a norovirus, probably Norwalk. It hit me like a tornado, and left me in bed for days, unable to function and feeling like I was about to take my last breath. Then the rest of the family got it. All 5 of us taking turns in the bathroom and coughing miserably together. By the fifth day I could get up and around, but it was a struggle! In the last couple of days I have actually been somewhat normal, (the kids have bounced back quicker thank goodness) but it is slow going and I still don't feel 100%, but hopefully I will soon!
So, wash wash wash and more washing of your hands, YOU definately dont want this BUG that is going around!

Happy Easter Everyone! Right now as I look out the window it is still snowing, yes snow! That was a huge Easter surprise. The ground has a light dusting, and looks pretty much like Christmas instead of Easter. LOL

I'm finishing up some NEW prims that I began before I was ILL. I will have some new Pictures for you soon!

WOW....I cannot believe it has been sooooooo long since I posted. Where has the time gone?? I have been super busy in the studio making all sorts of new spring prims and patterns, I guess maybe thats why time has passed sooooooooooo quickly!
I can't say spring has sprung outside yet, as this past week we have had some snow, sleet, hail etc....butttt it has bloomed here in the studio and customers are getting into the spring spirit! I have completely SOLD OUT of daisy flour bags ........and have orders for 4 more! Studio Tour - Where I Create!

Inspired by other bloggers posting tours of their workspaces - I thought I would follow suit. It is sooooo wonderful to get inspired by where other women create!

And NO, it is not always this tidy. It is often a muck with fabric cuttings strewn about the floor, painted items laying around drying, etc. etc. But after I finish up projects I like to tidy it up like this, so I can get inspired to create some new designs! Putting things back "where they go" has always been a challenge for me, but I am trying in 2009 to be more organized and put things away when I'm done. I am not always successful, and I am always a `work in progress`

What do you wanna be when you grow up? Hmmm. This is a conversation my kids have often, and it was sooo very nice when they included me in on the action. As I was busily preparing supper, my middle child (who is 8) said, what do you wanna be when you grow up mommmy? I was flattered that they think of me as a peer...and not a superior.....then I wondered how to answer the question..... "Do you wanna be a teacher?", my 4 year old asked...."well, I am a teacher" I replied. "You know that I teach piano". The kids were suprised......."Oh yeah" said my 8 year old. I forgot about that. Meanwhile I am wondering how he could forget being drilled on his scales and all those kids coming afterschool on the bus for lessons.
Being a mom is such an important job with sooo many responsibilities and duties - and my kids think of me as one of THEM.....a playmate who also cooks supper, washes their clothes, helps them with homework, and wonders what she is going to be when she grows up. LOL
My days are filled with motherly duties, household responsibilities, being an artist, running a business from home, volunteering, teaching piano to 9 pupils on afterschools and weekends.......the list goes on a on.... as I am sure may mothers lists do.
BUT... my kids have reminded me of what really is important, by asking a simple question "what do you wanna be when you grow up mommy?" It reminded me that because I often drop what I am doing to play a game with them, or so we can paint a picture together.......that they also think of me as their friend, and don't feel burdened by the busy-ness of a mothers sometimes hectic life.... I remember my mom leaving the housework and everything else to make little dolls from old clothespins when I was little, or to make a dollhouse outta cardboard, etc........and its those values of mothering that have been passed on in me. I'm thankful to have the ability to work at home, and spend as much time with my kids as I can, and to make much of that quality time, moments to remember, like I remember from my childhood. I know my kids would choose fingerpainting over having a spotless bathroom sink!

Celebrate Motherhood! Everything else can wait until they grow up!(or go to sleep;)
